Tech Notes

Enable local login

By default, Beszel is configured to use only OIDC for users to log in. In case of emergency (IdP outage), you may need to log in with the local break-glass account (1Password). Follow these steps to temporarily enable the local login form:

  1. SSH to centaur with a sudo-capable account.
  2. Navigate to /srv/beszel.
  3. Edit beszel.env and change DISABLE_PASSWORD_AUTH to false.
  4. Navigate to /srv/beszel and run docker compose up -d to restart the Docker container.
  5. Log in to Beszel using a local user account.

Make an account admin

  1. Have the user you want to make an admin sign in with SSO at least once so that they are present in the users table.
  2. Log in to the PocketBase backend at https://beszel.figure13.network/_/#/collections?collection=users. You will have to use the superuser login found in 1Password (link above).
  3. Locate the user that you want to make an admin in the users collection. Click on that user to edit them.
  4. Click on the role dropdown and select admin.
  5. Save your changes.
