Share Access

Hetzner makes multiple options available for sharing access to Console (VPS, object storage) and Robot (dedicated servers). These options vary based on what you are sharing access to.

Share Console access

This information is based on Hetzner’s documentation[1].

You can share access to a Cloud project (a collection of resources - servers, firewalls, security settings, etc.)

For the person sharing access

  1. Log into the Hetzner Console at console.hetzner.com.

  2. Select the project that you wish to share access to.

  3. In the left menu, select Security.

  4. In the top menu on the Security page, select Members.

  5. Click the red Add Member button.

  6. Enter the email address of the person you want to share the project with, and select their access level. (See the documentation link above for the different access levels. Usually you will want to choose Member or Restricted.)

For the person receiving access

  1. Once the sharing user has invited you, you will receive an email from Hetzner with the subject Project invitation from <name>. Click the Accept Project Invitation link in this email.

  2. You will be redirected to log in to your Hetzner account.

    1. If you already have a Hetzner account, log in now.

    2. If you do not yet have a Hetzner account, select Register now.

      1. Enter the same email address where you received the invitation, and create a secure password.

      2. If you are prompted for what ‘type’ of account to create, select Light account.

      3. Enter the confirmation code you received in your email.

  3. Once you are logged in and redirected, accept the project invitation.

Share Robot access

There is not currently a unified way to share access to dedicated server(s) with another person. Instead, you can create a separate “admin login” for each individual server, which only grants access to that specific server. See the Hetzner documentation[2] for specifics.

For the person sharing access

  1. Check the Infra_Control_Panels vault in 1Password to see if an admin login has already been created for that specific server.

  2. If an admin login has not already been created, create one now following the Hetzner documentation[2].

    1. Log into Robot using the main Hetzner credentials, then navigate to the Servers page.

    2. Select the server you want to create an admin login for.

    3. Switch to the Admin login tab.

    4. Use 1Password to generate and save a secure password.

    5. You will receive an email shortly that includes the username for the specific admin login. The special username will look something like #3001234+ABcd9. Save this username in the same 1Password record as the password you generated.

  3. Save the new admin login in the Infra_Control_Panels vault in 1Password. Share this new item with the recipient.

For the person receiving access

Use the 1Password login information you received from the sharer to log in to robot at robot.hetzner.com.
